Blackboard Collaborate FAQs

Q. I am recording my Activate Session, how do I pause the recording?

Unfortunately there is no way of pausing a recording on Blackboard Collaborate, if you need to stop the recording for any reason (such as a break out room activity or a break) you will need to 'Stop recording' and once ready to resume 'Start Recording' again.

Q. I am Sharing Screen/Sharing Files but cannot see participants on the screen, how do I enable this?

At the moment, you will only be able to see one user on the screen when sharing screen - we understand that this might not be ideal for Delivery Partners facilitating a session so we are looking into ways to combat this, if it is possible to do so.

Q. I am doing a break out room activity, how do I set a countdown timer to warn participants when it's time to come back into the main session?

Blackboard Collaborate used to have this feature but have temporary disabled it whilst they make changes to it. In the meantime, Delivery Partners can use the chat function to give participants a 'heads up' of when the Breakout room is going to close.

We have recorded our session, how do we share this with participants?

Participants can access their recordings shortly after the session have finished via. their course. As a participant, they can access their recordings via. 'Details and Actions' section within their course under 'Blackboard Collaborate' (screenshot below)

Recordings get automatically shared with participants via Blackboard. How do we change this if we want to watch the recording before sharing it with participants?

Unfortunately there is no way of doing this – if the footage of a recording is not appropriate, the recording would have to be downloaded and deleted. This could then be re-uploaded onto the ‘Course Content’ page as a mp4 file. See more here Recordings | Blackboard Help

Blackboard doesn’t have a ‘waiting room’ feature, meaning that participants arrive straight into a session. Is there any way of only allowing participants ‘in’ once facilitators are ready?

Blackboard does not have a waiting room feature . A simple way to deal with this to set the session up to only allow the session at the exact start time, rather than the automatic ’15 minutes before’. This might be the preferred option and facilitators will be able to join before as they have been enrolled as ‘Instructors’ therefore are ‘Moderators in Blackboard Collaborate Sessions.
