Participant FAQs

This section should answer questions Delivery Partners have in terms of supporting participants, questions around Activate and Apply Sessions and any general queries participants may have.

Attendance

Q. What is the attendance requirement?

Participants for expected to attend 90% of their Activate and Apply sessions.

Q. A participant has not attended a live session but has engaged with the recording, does this count as "attended"?

If the participant has confirmed that they have watched the recording, this does count towards their attendance.

Q. We have just had our Activate Session - do we need to do anything with the information about who has or haven't attended?

Great question! Please track both attendees and non-attendees on Blackboard using the 'Mark Attendance' feature on your course, which you can find under 'Details & Actions' within your course (screenshot below).

In terms of non-attendees, please ensure you that you contact them and make sure they are able to catch up and watch the recording. If you have had more than a couple of non attendees, you may create a communication and remind participants that 100% attendance is expected.

Teaching Cycle Materials

Q. Participants are asking how they should submit their responses to the 'KEQs'?

There is currently no set location within Blackboard for participants to submit their responses. Please respond with the below communication:

"Despite the KEQs specifying a word-limit, following a discussion with the EEF and in response to feedback, we are keen to manage the workload of participants and therefore, we do not expect participants to write a specified number of words for each KEQ. We recommend that participants set up a reflective journal to use alongside their online learning. This might be a paper-based journal or a word (or similar) document that you start. Taking the time to write down your reflections during your online learning will serve as a memory aid later on and help process what you are reading/ listening/watching.

Alternatively, you can print and make notes directly in the handbook. We strongly encourage you to write any responses/reflections in note form/bullet points as opposed to structured written responses. The same applies to the reflection questions that are found after each ‘Learn That’ – these are not assessed responses but are an opportunity for reflection. Our materials will echo this message for the next Teaching Cycle. Any reflections you complete are not assessed, but they provide an opportunity for you to consider your learning in a role-specific way".

Q. Some of the links in the resources are require payments?

We are aware that some of the journals and articles referenced in the participant handbooks are not easily available and participants are being asked to pay for articles in order to download them. We are currently working with our University Partners to find a solution to enable you to access these with ease. For now, please do focus on exploring the other references that you are more easily able to obtain.

Q. Where can I find a PDF Version of the Participant Handbook?

We are not longer creating PDF versions of the Participant Handbooks for Units. We are working towards developing a completely digital learning experience for participants. The course content can now be found on your "Course" within Blackboard.

Applications Queries

Can an international student apply to complete an NPQ?

A participant can take part if they pay, however, they are required by the DFE to take part in a minimum of 8 hours face to face teaching.
